When working in potentially hazardous environments, we nearly always remember to cover our heads and protect our bodies with overalls, but our feet often get overlooked. Symptoms, Treatment, and Prevention of Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease that is caused by bacteria, and it affects the mucus membrane primarily of the genitals and urinary tracts. These parts became inflamed with no development of other symptoms. It is characterized by an acute purulent discharge and painful or difficult urination. In most women, gonorrhea have no symptoms. Gonorrhea is highly contagious, and it is caused by the organism Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In men, this disease begins as an infection of the vessel that carries the urine and sperm, and in women it infects the cervix. If this remains untreated, gonorrhea will likely result to a more serious and complicated medical condition.

Description of the Disease

Gonorrhea affects all people of any age, race, and socioeconomic levels. Majority of the reported cases of gonorrhea came from public clinics only. But like other diseases, some individuals are more prone to this disease than others. Some adolescents and young adults are the groups with the highest risks because they are among the individuals who have multiple sex partners and those who use no barrier contraception during intercourse. Both men and women can be affected by this disease through different methods of sexual contact behaviors. This type of disease is easily transmitted, and women have a high chance of contracting the disease after just one sexual encounter with an infected male. This disease can also be transmitted from an infected mother to her infant during delivery.

Causes and Symptoms of the Disease

Diagnosis and Treatment of the Disease 

The initial diagnosis of gonorrhea will be based on the symptoms, sexual history, and several risk factors and behaviors. A laboratory test would also be needed to complete the diagnosis. Some of these tests are gram staining, ELISA or enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, and DNA probe test.

Antibiotics are the main drugs that are used in treating gonorrhea because it is a bacterial disease. But recently, there are some herbs and minerals that are used to supplement the treatment of the disease. These may include zinc, multivitamins and mineral complexes, vitamin C, and even garlic. Some penicillin and penicillin derivatives are also used for the allopathic treatment of gonorrhea.

But perhaps there is some truth in the portrayal of pharmaceutical companies as evil corporate slime balls who will literally do anything, including, and not limited to, putting people’s lives at risk to make a buck, or even worse, to deny them life saving drugs because they cannot afford them. History has so far been ripe with examples of abuse by pharmaceutical companies, so perhaps it is only natural that when a Hollywood screenwriter is looking for a even, he or she tends to find one currently employed by a large and uncaring pharmaceutical company.

It would stand to reason then, that the field of pharma public relations, is a dangerous one, precarious to say the least. Years of anti- pharmaceutical dogma has been spouting from a wide variety of sources, some verifying their facts, some not. But it is immaterial because the damage to the reputation of the pharmaceutical companies is done. A cynical worldview would be for pharmaceutical companies to not care what people think because they need, and will therefore buy live saving drugs. But it is the job of the Pharma public relations representative not to dwell on such dark thoughts, but to try and convince a greater portion of the population that pharmaceutical companies are not all that bad.

Pharma public relations representatives obviously have to deal with ingrained prejudices against their chosen industry, but it is not a futile struggle. By simply pointing out the undisputed fact that pharmaceutical companies make a product that saves people’s lives, pharma public relations representatives can hope to try and at least make a dent in the negative portrayal of drug companies.

Pharma public relations reps need to envision a world where money is no object, and people who need particular medical treatments and drugs can get what they need without a single thought wasted on how much it will cost. Under these ideal conditions, the role of a Pharma public relations rep would be moot. But if the Pharma public relations rep can convince people that their product is necessary and good for the planet, then he or she has a chance to change people’s minds, which is the goal of any self respecting public relations firm. It would behoove these struggling individuals to focus on what matters which is that large drug companies help people stay alive longer and help them to lead productive and healthy lives. With this in mind it would do the Pharma rep well to focus on the live saving properties of a drug like Prozac, as opposed to a cosmetic or otherwise non essential drug like Viagra or Rogaine. But, by downplaying the sometimes shallow and vain exploits of the large multi national drug companies, it is possible to effect a change in how most every day citizens of the United States of America view pharma companies. Thus, pharma public relations is not an impossible pursuit, but with hard work, it is a means to an end.
